Inside Information: Interviews With In-House Search Marketers – Part 2

Tips For Upgrading Your Search Marketing Career Outlook

The never ending quest for web sites to rank higher and higher in search engine results pages has resulted in a corresponding development of entire careers that support this goal.

Googlebot In Aisle Three: How Google Plans To Index The World?

Robots reading cereal boxes in the supermarket? Googlebot at the art museum? Street signs and building addresses snatched from Street View images for local search, image search, and product search?

Three new patent applications published at the U.S. Trademark and Patent Office this week explore the intricacies of reading text in images taken from Google’s Street View project, and explore some interesting steps beyond those. I described a number of the implications behind the patent filings in an SEO by the Sea post from last night: Google on Reading Text in Images from Street Views, Store Shelves, and Museum Interiors.

Google Docs Releases New Presentation Features

The Google Docs blog has announced new features for the Google Docs suite of tools. You can now create subfolders to more easily organize your documents and can rename documents and folders from the toolbar (previously, you could only do this from the File menu). The toolbar has also been spiffed up.

In addition, Google has launched several new features for Google Presentations, including the ability to embed presentations into a page of any site. More details on the Presentations features below.

Mahalo Adds More Social Features

Mahalo has just launched several new features that entwine the human-powered search engine even further into social networking and online community building. The Mahalo Follow toolbar now enables you to post links to Delicious, Ma.gnolia, and Mahalo Social, and Twitter with the click of one button. The sidebar now displays quick tips when you’re on sites like Twitter and Gmail.

In addition, Mahalo now lets you create “stub” pages (much like you can on Wikipedia). Jason Calacanis assures us on his blog that he has 50 full time people watching user-contributed content for spam and will not only remove spam, but might ban the domain and user as well.

Dailymotion : Video Marketing on this Global Version of YouTube

I am happy to announce my first in a series of posts on video marketing on video sharing sites. I will be going off of the global list of top trafficked video sites, as ranked by Alexa.

Obviously the first would be YouTube but since I have been doing some posts on this already at Search Engine Journal, I have moved on to our next site at the Alexa Top 40; Dailymotion. (more…)
