Link building with local events

wmseoOne of the best ways for a business to get additional links and exposure to to host a local event. You can do this when you host a workshop, training event or even participate in one hosted by another organization. Not only will this give you immediate offline exposure, you will also have the possibility of some hard links. Here are few:

Event listing

The easiest way to get links is to get listed on the many event listing sites online. As long as you have legitimate organization that is hosting an interesting event, you will definitely get listed. Many of the event sites require a simple form consisting of an event title, description, when and where the event takes place, and of course, a URL for more information.

Difficult domains

There are some domains that are very difficult to get listed on for some businesses. These are usually major newspapers, tv and radio stations. Hosting an event and telling them about it and inviting them is a way to get those links and coverage from their events sections.

Geo links

The hardest links to get are local relevant links. There is nothing better to help local search rankings than getting listed in a local newspaper. A local event appearing in a local newspaper is a nice way of getting those links.

Root domains

Not only are links important, but more important are the number of linking root domains. This metric can go a long way to increasing the authority of your website. Hosting an event means you can get a lot of links from otherwise difficult to get sites. In some cases hosting an event is the only way to get listed.

Five tips for Improving Landing Pages

wmseoLanding pages exist for the purpose of converting leads into customers. Each landing page has a call to action that is meant to convince the visitor to act. If they do click then the process begins to making them a customer. If they don’t click then nothing happens. This shows how important the call to action is on a landing page. If the users don’t follow the call then they don’t convert. Here are some tips on optimizing your call to action copy:

Button color and design are important visual cues to your users on where they should click. Use colors and designs that will entice a user to read and click through.

The copy has an impact on the visitors final decision. It should emphasize “why should I click this button” Make sure the user knows the benefits they will get when the proceed. You can also point out the problem that will be solved.

Clarify what users will get when they click. ContentVerve has the perfect example: “hanging the CTA copy from, “Get Membership” to, “Find Your Gym & Get Membership”
increased click through to the payment page by 213.16%.”

Make sure your call to action is concise and not too long. CrazyEgg writes that “anything that goes over ten or fifteen words is probably too long.”

If you really need to have additional text, add it next to or under the button. These are called click triggers and according to Copyblogger “Simply by adding two click triggers—one an anxiety-reducer about credit cards, the other a key benefit of the solution—FriendBuy now sees 134 signups for every 100 it used to see.”

3 Tips to Improve Design for Company Websites

There are several sites that tend to do too much. This makes it difficult for customers to get what they visited the website for in the first place.

Sticking to the basics of web design is necessary for more reasons than not. Here are 3 tips to help businesses improve a company website:

1: Put the user’s need first

The layout of your website should be placed in such a way that users are able to locate information they want to see with minimal fuss. It can be frustrating if visitors can only find information about the owner and company instead of what they actually want. For this, use an ‘About Us’ link to place all company and owner information in one place. This will leave information as to what the company offers or provides the user for them to see first.

wmseo2: Avoid using Flash

Given that animations, ads and videos require Flash, it can be very tempting to use it. Yet there are a number of compatibility issues with smartphones that will reduce the number of people visiting the site. In other cases, computer users will not have the Flash program installed and they will not be able to visit the site either. In other words, use it only when absolutely necessary.

3: Add social media links

Add social media links to your company page on the website. This is an excellent way to provide users with additional information so that they can learn more about you as well as keep in touch for updates, sales and deals too.

3 Methods to Pick an Appropriate Color Scheme in Web Design

Color psychology is used a lot in several aspects of design. Whether it is the brand logos, website design or even colors that are used on everyday items, color has the ability to convey a message to its users.

Yet it’s unlikely that web designer pick only one color. Hence, considering the overall color scheme and the individual colors and how well they work together is necessary. Apart from this, think about how these colors will affect the user and also how the secondary color combines with the primary color.

This involves picking the appropriate color scheme. Here are three methods to do so:

1: Triadic

This is probably the most balanced and basic method to pick a color scheme. Color vibrancy and complementation is used here. For this, use the 12-step color wheel, pick any three colors that are located at 120 degrees from each other. Each of these colors can be picked for content, background and navigation.

 wmseo2: Compound

This method is a bit difficult and requires a lot of experimentation. Yet if you get it right, it can be very effective. In particular, this method uses two complementary colors apart from two contrasting ones. In all, you will have to play with four colors in all.

3: Analogous

This method focuses on complementary colors and how they are used. Yet one should be careful as to which scheme to pick because it will convey a distinct message to the user. You have to be careful as these colors are usually exaggerated and it can get too much for the user in question. This is because it highlights the vibrancy of the color scheme selected.
